Republic of Bolivia
Capital: Sucre
President: Evo Morales
Official Languages: Spanish, Quechua, Aymara, Guarani
Population:9,627,269
Named after Simon Boliviar, the Republic of Bolivia is a country in the center of South America.  Bolivia gained its independence from Spain in 1825.  Following it's independence Bolivia was ruled by a series of over 200 coups and countercoups until the establishment of a democratic system in 1985. Since the Election of the current president Evo Morales in 2005 the government has begun moving towards socialism.  He has however began employing rather controversial methods and has created divisions between the Amerindian populations of the Andean west and the non-indigenous communities of the eastern lowlands.  The Bolivian government has always been met with challenges surrounding poverty and drug production.
The Needs of Bolivia
  • 23.2% of the population lives off less than $1 per day
  • 3rd largest Cocaine production in the world.
  • 25% of children are malnourished
  • On a scale from 1-10 designed to rank political corruption (1 being entirely corrupt, 10 being not corrupt at all) Bolivia ranked at a 2.5
  • The combination of South American countries attests to nearly half of the worlds population of street children
