The Dominican Republic shares an island with the nation of Haiti in the Caribean sea.  The Dominican Republic history has been dominated by tyrannical governments until it's move in 1961 towards representative government.  It is credited with being the first permanent colony in the Americas.
The Needs of the Dominican Republic
  • 22% of the population does not have access to adequate drinking water
  • On a scale from 1-10 designed to measure corruption (1 being entirely corrupt, 10 being not corrupt) the DR ranked #3
  • 13.2% of children ages 10-14 work as laborers
