Eastern Republic of Uruguay
Capital: Montevideo
President: Tabare Vazquez Rosas
Population 3,415,920

Uruguay is located in the southeastern part of South America.  Montevideo was founded by the Spanish in the early 18th Century as a military stronghold. Uruguay won its independence in 1825-1828 following a three way struggle between Spain, Argentina, and Brazil. According to Transparency International, Uruguay is the second least corrupt country in Latin America (following Chile). Its political and labor conditions are among the freest on the continent. In November 2007 Uruguay became the first Latin American country and the second in the American continent to recognize same sex civil unions at the national level. 94.6% of the population is of European descent. Almost half of the population declares to be Roman Catholic. However, the majority of Uruguayans are only nominally religious.

Currently this ministiry is giving assistance to 17 teenagers and 36 children in different group homes throughout the city of El Salto. Please join us in prayering that one day, they will have a center where they can provide the much needed help to these abandoned children.
